Frequently asked questions

Why does the X (Twitter) count differ from the character count?

X weighs characters: links always count as 23, and emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as 2. The X bar uses the same rules.

How are SMS messages counted?

Plain text uses the GSM-7 alphabet: 160 characters fit in one message, or 153 per part when it is split. A single emoji or special character switches the whole message to Unicode, which allows only 70 characters (67 per part).

Is my text saved or uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your text is never sent to our servers or stored anywhere.
