How to compress images without losing quality

Oct 12, 2026 · 1 min read

Large images are the most common reason a web page loads slowly. The good news: most photos can be made 60–80% smaller without any visible difference.

Pick the right format

  • JPG is best for photos.
  • PNG is best for screenshots, logos and images with transparency.
  • WebP is usually the smallest of all and works in every modern browser.

Choose a sensible quality

A quality setting of around 75% removes detail your eyes can't see. Go lower only for thumbnails.

Resize before you compress

A 4000-pixel photo shown 800 pixels wide wastes bandwidth. Set a maximum width that matches where the image is displayed.

Try it

Open the Image Compressor, drop your images, pick a quality and download the results — your files never leave your device.
